OPR Mic Shootout Multitracks

Please download the .zip folder of multitrack audio .WAV files for the song Closing in on You – written, recorded and performed by Jamie Durrant.

The files include separate stereo instrument stems of electric guitar, acoustic guitar, drums, bass, keyboard and vocals, recorded with the Open Plan Recording OPR-C12 Ultralux and OPR-251 Ultralux tube microphones.

Notes:

1. The lead vocal is provided as 251, C12, U48 and U67 microphone recordings (4 separate MONO tracks). Backing vocals are provided as 251 and C12 mic recordings only.

2. Provided is a Mellotron organ recorded through a Leslie rotating speaker cabinet – this is recorded on the left side of the cabinet with the 251 mic and the C12 mic on the right.

3. DI’ed Prophet 5 synth parts and a chorus effect ‘attack’ guitar is provided for colour only, and is not a C12 or 251 mic recording.

4. All tracks are stereo group ‘stems’, except the lead vocal files.

5. All tracks have been recorded without any EQ or compression whatsoever.

About the Project

Testing the Open Plan Recording OPR-C12 Ultralux and OPR-251 Ultralux tube microphones. Made by hand in Melbourne by artisan mic maker Mark Chierego.

The aim of the project was to record a new song Closing in on You using these mics in tandem, on every instrument! Then to present two song mixes, a C12 mix and a 251 mix. And make available the multitrack audio files available for FREE download.

About the mics: With their hand-wired point to point circuit, the build quality goes all the way, mounted on acrylic just like the originals. And they look stunning! Both the OPR C12 and 251 have nine polar patterns from figure 8 to Omni. They come with a PSU, mic pouch, cable, heavy-duty shock mount and an aluminium flight case.
